What is the purpose of a movie poster? How to visually represent the ideas and emotions we see on film? How to convey meaning using signs and symbols? Strengthening the practices of looking is vital in the promotion of visual literacy among young people, while contemplating a film’s content and its meaning is a prerequisite for the responsible creation of the visual material, the purpose of which is to convey themes from the film in a recognizable, striking and clear way. From the standpoint of graphic design, it is about finding a way to communicate the complex language of film in the form of text or images.

With the help of a workshop mentor, the participants will analyze the films in the festival’s program and pinpoint recognizable motifs essential for understanding the themes and characters in the films. They will transform the selected motifs into a movie poster using photography, illustration, text, etc. They will become familiar with the basic elements of graphic design and use simple analog-digital collage techniques to design their own posters using image and text processing tools.
